Glenborrodale Bay is a beautiful bay found in the Scottish Highlands of Scotland. It's located on the southern coast of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. This bay is part of Loch Sunart, which is a sea loch. A sea loch is like a narrow arm of the sea that reaches inland.

Glenborrodale Bay is known for its calm waters. It's a peaceful spot in a remote part of Scotland.

Life in Glenborrodale Bay

The Village of Glenborrodale

At the very top of Glenborrodale Bay, you'll find a small village called Glenborrodale. A small road, the B8007, leads to the bay. This road has only one lane in places, with special spots for cars to pass each other.

Glenborrodale Castle

Overlooking the bay is the impressive Glenborrodale Castle. This large castle was built a long time ago, in the late Victorian era. It used to be the home of Jesse Boot. He was famous for starting the well-known chain of shops called Boots Chemists. The castle offers amazing views of the bay and Loch Sunart.

The village also has a hotel, the Glenborrodale Hotel. It welcomes visitors to this quiet area.

Exploring the Bay's Geography

Glenborrodale Bay stretches from north to south. The northern part of the bay has wide, flat areas of land. These areas are covered by water when the tide is high. A small stream, called a burn, flows into the bay here. It creates many small channels across the flats.

The bay is about 220 meters wide at its northern end. It then opens up into the larger Loch Sunart. This wider part is about 400 meters from the very top of the bay.

Islands Near the Bay

You can spot several small islands around the mouth of Glenborrodale Bay.

  • To the east is the tiny island of Eilean an Fhèidh.
  • To the west is Sgeir Bhuidhe.
  • Right in the middle of the bay's entrance is the small island of Risga.

You can also clearly see the eastern side of a larger island called Drium Mòr. This island is located close to the southern coast of Loch Sunart. There's a place called Port Phadriug on Drium Mòr, which is directly across from the bay's entrance.

Nearby Bays and Villages

To the west of Glenborrodale Bay, you'll find another small village called Glenmore. It sits on Glenmore Bay. To the east, there's Laga Bay and the village of Laga.

Things to Do and See

Glenborrodale Woods

Right next to the beach, you'll find the Glenborrodale Woods. This is a special area of 100 hectares. It's looked after by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). The woods are a great place to see many different kinds of woodland birds.

Water Sports on Loch Sunart

Loch Sunart is a popular spot for water sports. Many people enjoy activities like canoeing here. Even though it's a remote area, the loch can get quite busy during the summer months.
