History of Glendale
Glendale started to grow when a railroad line was built nearby between 1881 and 1883. A man named Solomon Abraham planned the town and first called it "Julia" after his wife.
However, there was a disagreement, and the railroad's chief engineer, A. F. Morris, changed the name to "Glendale." The post office, which was first named Julia in February 1883, also changed its name to Glendale in August of the same year.
In 1928, a big fire destroyed many of the businesses in Glendale. But the community quickly worked together to rebuild the town.
In the 1880s, some Jewish immigrants from Russia came to the area. They were looking for a new home away from unfair rules in their own country. They formed a community called New Odessa near Glendale. This community later ended in 1888.
Glendale officially became a city in 1901.
