Glendambo is a small town and area in the Australian state of South Australia. It is located right on the Stuart Highway, a very long road that crosses the country.

The town is about 592 kilometers (368 miles) north of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It is also about 254 kilometers (158 miles) south of Coober Pedy, a famous opal mining town.

Glendambo's History

Glendambo was officially recognized as a town on May 13, 1982. Its name comes from a nearby large farm called Glendambo Homestead.

Later, on October 23, 2003, the official boundaries for the larger Glendambo area were set. This area includes both the original homestead and the town itself.

What You'll Find in Glendambo

Glendambo is an important stop for travelers on the Stuart Highway. If you are driving north, it's the last place to get supplies for a long time. The next facilities are 254 kilometers away in Coober Pedy.

The town is quite small, with only about 30 people living there. It doesn't get much rain, only about 185 millimeters (7.3 inches) each year. Because of this, it's unlikely to grow into a big city.

Even though it's small, Glendambo has everything a traveler might need. You can find a caravan park for campers, a hotel-motel for overnight stays, and a restaurant. There's also a roadhouse where you can get fuel and a general store for supplies.

How Glendambo is Governed

Glendambo is part of a special area in South Australia called the Pastoral Unincorporated Area. This means it doesn't have its own local council like most towns.

Instead, a state government group called the Outback Communities Authority helps manage services for the people living there. Glendambo is also part of the Far North region of South Australia.

For national elections, Glendambo is in the federal Division of Grey. For state elections, it's in the Giles district.
