History of Glenn
The first post office in Glenn opened its doors in 1903. A man named A. K. Barham owned and ran the local Glenn Store. On November 14, 1913, he was appointed the postmaster, meaning he was in charge of the post office. At that time, the post office was located right inside his store.
Back then, the community of Glenn had a church, a school, several homes, and even a saloon. A. K. Barham's father worked as a foreman on one of the large wheat farms owned by Dr. Hugh J. Glenn in Glenn County.
Geography and Landmarks
The area around Glenn is mostly flat land, located right along the banks of the Sacramento River. This river is a very important natural feature in California.
One well-known spot in Glenn is the Glenn Post Office, which is located on State Route 45, just north of State Route 162. If you travel further north on State Route 45, you'll find the local Mennonite Church. There are quite a few Mennonite farming families who live and work in this region.
Much of the land around Glenn is used for farming, with many fields under cultivation. West of the community, along State Route 162 between Glenn and Willows, there is also a natural gas well field.
