A Look Back at Glenn Heights
Glenn Heights started to develop in the late 1960s. A firefighter named N.L. 'Moe' Craddock opened a mobile home park. He wanted to make sure his business was safe from being taken over by a nearby city. So, he helped the area become its own town.
Glenn Heights officially became a city on September 16, 1969. Moe Craddock stayed involved in the city's government. He served on the city council for many years. Later, he became the mayor in 1985 and was re-elected several times.
In 1970, only 257 people lived in Glenn Heights. By 1980, the population grew to 1,033. It kept growing fast, reaching 4,564 people by 1990. By 2000, over 7,000 people called Glenn Heights home. Even with all this growth, more than half of the city's land is still undeveloped.
