About Glenna F. Hansen
Glenna F. Hansen is an important figure in Canadian politics. She is from the Inuvialuit people, who are Inuit living in the western Canadian Arctic. Her work as Commissioner helped lead the Northwest Territories.
Early Life and Career
Glenna F. Hansen was born in Aklavik, a small community in the Northwest Territories, Canada. In 1991, she started working at David Storr and Sons Contracting Ltd. She began as an executive assistant. This role involves helping top managers with their daily tasks.
By 1996, she became the general manager of the company. A general manager is in charge of all the business operations. She held this important position until at least 2004.
Running for Office
Glenna F. Hansen tried to become a member of the Northwest Territories Legislature. This is like being a representative for a specific area. She ran in the 1999 Northwest Territories general election for the Inuvik Twin Lakes area. However, she did not win that election. Roger Allen won the seat instead.
A few months later, she was chosen to be the Commissioner. This was a different way for her to enter political office.
She ran for election again in 2011. This was for the 2011 Northwest Territories general election in the Mackenzie Delta area. The race was very close because the person who held the seat before, David Krutko, was not running again. Glenna F. Hansen finished in fifth place in that election. Frederick Blake Jr. won the seat.
Commissioner of the Northwest Territories
On March 31, 2000, Glenna F. Hansen was appointed as the 14th Commissioner of the Northwest Territories. She was also sworn into this role on the same day. The Commissioner is like the head of state for the territory. This means they represent the government and its people.
She was the 24th person to hold this important position since 1870. Glenna F. Hansen served as Commissioner for about five years. Her term ended on April 29, 2005.
