Glinde is a lively town in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. It's located about 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) away from the big city of Hamburg. Glinde is a place with a long history and a growing community.
Glinde's Story: A Look Back in Time
The name Glinde first appeared in an old document on March 25, 1229. In this important paper, a powerful leader named Adolf IV. of Schauenburg and Holstein gave the village of Glinde to a group of monks and nuns called the Cistercian convent. This convent later moved to a town we now know as Reinbek.
Later on, during a big religious change called the Protestant Reformation, the King of Denmark and Duke of Schleswig-Holstein, Frederick I of Denmark, took control of all the land the convent owned. In 1544, his son, Christian III, shared parts of this land with his brothers. Over the years, the ownership of Glinde changed hands many times.
In 1948, the towns of Glinde, Oststeinbek, Havighorst, and Schönningstedt decided to work together and formed a joint administration called the Amt Glinde. However, Schönningstedt left this group in 1949, and Havighorst followed in 1973. This meant that Glinde and Oststeinbek became independent villages.
A very special day for Glinde was June 24, 1979. On this day, which was the 750th anniversary of the village, Glinde officially became a town!
Working Together: Glinde's Partnerships
Glinde believes in building friendships with other towns around the world. These special connections are called "partnerships." They help people from different countries learn about each other's cultures and ways of life.
Glinde has partnerships with two towns:
- Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire: This town is located near Nantes in western France.
- Kaposvár: This is the main town of the Somogy province in Hungary, located south of Lake Balaton.
