Gnesta was used as a filming location for a famous movie! The 2009 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was partly filmed here. This movie was based on a popular book by Stieg Larsson. In the film, Gnesta pretended to be the fictional towns of Hedestad and Hedeby Island.
