Gnesta Municipality (Gnesta kommun) is a special area in Södermanland County in southeast Sweden. It's like a local government area. The main town in Gnesta Municipality is called Gnesta, where about 5,000 people live.
This municipality was created in 1992. Before that, it was part of Nyköping Municipality. Gnesta became its own municipality to manage its local affairs better.
Gnesta is located in the middle of the cultural Södermanland province. About 10,000 people live here all year round. But in the summer, many more people come to stay in their summer houses. This makes the population much larger during the warmer months!
Most of the businesses in Gnesta are small companies. They usually have only a few employees. There are about 800 registered companies in the municipality. A "large" company here might have around 25 to 50 employees.
