Goedereede (pronounced HOO-duh-ray-duh) is a small city in the western part of the Netherlands. It is located in the province of South Holland. Goedereede used to be its own municipality, which is like a local government area.
This former municipality was home to about 11,000 people in 2010. It covered the western part of the island called Goeree-Overflakkee. On January 1, 2013, Goedereede joined with other towns. These towns were Dirksland, Middelharnis, and Oostflakkee. Together, they formed the new, larger municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee. The city of Goedereede itself had about 2,000 residents in 2012.

History of Goedereede
Goedereede has a long and interesting history. It received special permissions called city rights in 1312. These rights were given by a knight named Sir Gereart van Voorne. City rights allowed Goedereede to have its own laws and markets.
Important People and Events
A very important person, who later became Pope Adrian VI, was once a pastor in Goedereede. He served the local church between 1459 and 1523.
In 1482, a big fire swept through Goedereede. This fire destroyed the old "Katharina Church" and its tall tower. A new church was built in 1512. It was placed right next to the Toren van Goedereede (Goedereede Tower), which is still standing today.
Over time, Goedereede became less important for trade. Other ports that were in better locations took away its business. Because of this, there wasn't enough money to keep the church in good repair. In 1706, the old church building was taken down because it was falling apart. Luckily, the historic tower was saved and remains a landmark.
Areas of the Former Municipality
The former municipality of Goedereede included several communities. From west to east, these were:
- Ouddorp
- Goedereede (which included a small harbor area called Havenhoofd)
- Oostdijk
- Stellendam
