It's a mix of creamy toffee and vanilla ice cream. This is dipped in a tasty chocolate coating. Then, it's covered in crunchy honeycomb biscuits! All of this is served on a wooden stick. In New Zealand, this same ice cream is called Cookie Crumble. The name "Gaytime" is meant to suggest a happy and fun time.

Different Kinds of Golden Gaytime
Over the years, Streets has made the Golden Gaytime in different ways. This means you can enjoy it in more than just the original stick form.
New Ways to Enjoy It
On August 4, 2015, Streets announced a new way to eat Golden Gaytime. They started selling it in a tub, like regular ice cream. This was in addition to the classic stick.
Later, on September 7, 2016, they released the Golden Gaytime as a Cornetto cone. They called this new treat the Golden Gaynetto.
In 2017, Streets introduced the Golden Gaytime Sanga. "Sanga" is Australian slang for sandwich. This was an ice cream sandwich version of the popular treat.
Fun Flavours
Many different flavours have been made, especially since the mid-2010s. Some of these special flavours were only sold in certain stores. For example, a Krispy Kreme doughnut flavoured Golden Gaytime was first sold only in 7-Eleven stores.

How It's Advertised
The company uses the playful name in its advertising. A famous slogan from the 1980s was, "It's hard to have a Gaytime on your own." This slogan played on the word "Gaytime" meaning a fun time.
On the boxes you buy for home, it says, "4 delicious chances to have a gay time." In 2009, Streets even started showing an old TV commercial from the 1980s again.
Its Place in Culture
The fun, double meaning of the name has even been featured in popular culture. For example, the song "Golden Gaytime" by The Bedroom Philosopher highlights this.
