The Golden Mountains of Altai is a special place in Russia. It is so important that UNESCO has named it a World Heritage Site. This means it is protected for everyone to enjoy.
This huge area covers about 6,848 square miles (17,736 square kilometers). It includes two big nature reserves: the Altai and Katun reserves. You can find them in Siberia, which is a large part of Russia. The site also features Lake Teletskoye, the tall Belukha Mountain, and the Ukok Plateau.
UNESCO chose this area because it has many different types of plants and trees. They grow at different heights, from low valleys to high mountains. This makes it a great place to study nature. The Golden Mountains of Altai are also home to many amazing animals. These include endangered snow leopards. You can also find large brown bears, clever wolverines, and majestic golden eagles here.
