The Golden Triangle Mall is a large indoor shopping mall in Denton, Texas. It is located where two major roads, Loop 288 and I-35E, meet. This mall has one floor and is home to many different stores.

The mall has several main stores, called "anchor stores," which are usually very large. These include Ross Dress for Less, Conn's, H&M, JCPenney, Barnes & Noble, and Dillard's. There is also a Fitness Connection gym inside. The mall also has a fun play area for kids.

A big update to the mall started in 2012. This makeover completely changed many parts of the mall. It added a new Food Court where you can grab a bite to eat. There's also a new Center Court, a place for performances, and free Wi-Fi. New seating areas with charging stations were also added. These changes helped bring in many new stores and restaurants.

Mall History

Golden Triangle Mall first opened its doors in 1980. It was the very first enclosed shopping mall in Denton County, Texas. The mall was very popular throughout the 1980s.

However, things became a bit harder for the mall after 1989. That's when a much bigger mall, Vista Ridge Mall, opened nearby. Golden Triangle Mall also faced challenges because Denton is a college town. Many students might not have a lot of money to spend.

In 1999, the mall was sold to a new owner, Simon Property Group. The next year, in 2000, the mall got a big makeover inside. This included new floor tiles, better entrances, updated restrooms, and new signs.

In 2006, the mall was sold again to Feldman Mall Properties. There were plans for more big renovations. However, these plans were put on hold for a while. In 2010, a company called JPMorgan Chase & Co. took over the mall. Soon after, Cencor Realty Services and The Weitzman Group began managing the mall.

From 2012 to 2014, the mall had another major renovation. This brought in many new stores like Buckle and Charlotte Russe.

Anchor Stores Over Time

Anchor stores are the biggest stores in a mall. They often help attract shoppers to the other smaller stores. Golden Triangle Mall has had several different anchor stores over the years.

Some of the current anchor stores include Barnes & Noble, Conn's, Dillard's, Fitness Connection, JCPenney, Macy's, and Ross Dress for Less. One large space used to be a Sears store, but it is now empty.

Here are some changes to the mall's anchor stores:

  • The space now occupied by Macy's was once a Montgomery Ward store until 2001. Then it became Foley's from 2003 to 2006. Macy's closed in April 2021.
  • Fitness Connection took over a space that was previously a DSW shoe store. Before that, it was Service Merchandise.
  • Ross Dress for Less is in a spot that used to be a Bealls store.
  • The Dillard's Men's store was called Russell's until 1989.
  • In March 2015, the popular clothing store H&M announced it would open a large store in the mall. It is located near the west entrance.
  • On May 31, 2018, it was announced that Sears would be closing. The store officially closed on September 2, 2018.
  • In August 2019, DSW moved to a new location outside the mall. Fitness Connection then leased that space and opened in April 2020.
  • In January 2020, Conn's Home Plus leased a large part of the old Sears store. It was supposed to open in April but opened in July due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
