Peanut Chews are a popular candy bar made in the United States. They are produced by a company called Just Born. These chewy candies are packed with peanuts and a sweet molasses flavor. Everything is covered in a delicious chocolatey coating.

You can find Peanut Chews in two main flavors. There's the original dark chocolatey flavor. There's also a version with a milk chocolatey coating. These candy bars are usually small, like the "fun size" candies you might get for Halloween. People in Philadelphia and nearby areas especially love them.

The Sweet History of Peanut Chews

Peanut Chews have a long and interesting history! They were first made by the Goldenberg Candy Company. This company was started by David Goldenberg, who came from Romania, way back in 1890.

Peanut Chews first appeared in 1917. They were originally created for the U.S. military during World War I. These candies were like a special energy bar for soldiers. They had lots of energy and protein, which made them perfect for troops. Soldiers really liked the unique taste too!

In 1921, Harry Goldenberg started selling Peanut Chews to everyone. These were the first wrapped Peanut Chews you could buy in stores. Later, in the 1930s, the candy changed. Instead of one big bar, it became small, individual pieces.

In 1949, Harry and Sylvia Goldenberg took over the Peanut Chews part of the company. They wanted to focus only on making these popular candies. Then, in 2003, another candy company bought the brand. This was Just Born, Inc., located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. They also bought the factory where Peanut Chews were made.

Peanut Chews Today

The original dark chocolatey Peanut Chews are special because they don't have milk or egg products. This means some vegans, who avoid animal products, can enjoy them.

When Just Born took over, they made some changes. They updated the recipe and the packaging. They also tried to sell Peanut Chews in more places across the country. However, they noticed that the candy was losing popularity in its main market. This area is mostly from Baltimore to New York City.

So, Just Born decided to focus their marketing back on this home region. They also brought back the Goldenberg's name. Now, "Goldenberg's" is just as important as "Peanut Chews" on the candy wrappers. This helps people remember the candy's long history.
