How Goldilocks Started

Goldilocks Bakeshop started on May 15, 1966. Three family members, Milagros Leelin Yee, Clarita Leelin Go, and Doris Wilson Leelin, opened the very first store. It was in Makati, Philippines, and began with just 10 employees.

Growing Across the World

Ten years later, in 1976, Goldilocks opened its first store outside the Philippines. This new store was in Los Angeles, United States. In 1991, Goldilocks started a program that allowed other people to open their own Goldilocks stores. This helped hundreds of new Goldilocks branches open all over the Philippines.

More stores were later opened in other parts of California, like San Francisco and San Jose. They also opened a store in Las Vegas, Nevada.

New Ownership and Expansion

In 2018, a big company called SM Investments bought a part of Goldilocks Bakeshop. By 2021, SM Investments owned most of the company, making Goldilocks a part of their group. In 2024, Goldilocks announced plans to open 60 more stores. This meant they aimed to have 986 branches by the end of that year.

Why the Name "Goldilocks"?

The name "Goldilocks Bakeshop" comes from the famous fairy tale character, Goldilocks. The founders chose this name because they wanted it to be easy for children and their mothers to remember. The name also sounded like "gold" and "luck," which they thought would bring good fortune to the business. The idea for the name came from the founders' sister, Maria Flor.

A Fresh New Look

In 2010, Goldilocks Bakeshop updated its entire brand image. This meant they changed their logos, store designs, and how they presented themselves to customers.
