Goosebumps Graphic Novels by Scholastic
From 2006 to 2015, Scholastic published four special Goosebumps Graphix books. Each of these books was a collection of classic Goosebumps stories, but told as graphic novels. This means they were like comic books, with pictures and speech bubbles, making the scary parts even more exciting! Different artists drew each story, giving them unique looks. In total, ten different stories were adapted across these four books, available in both paperback and hardcover.
Creepy Creatures
This was the very first Goosebumps Graphix book, released in September 2006. It included three spooky adaptations:
- The Werewolf of Fever Swamp, drawn by Gabriel Hernandez.
- The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight, illustrated by Greg Ruth.
- The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena, brought to life by Scott Morse.
Terror Trips
Released in March 2007, Terror Trips took readers on more scary journeys. This book featured three more graphic novel adaptations:
- Deep Trouble, with art by Amy Kim Ganter.
- One Day at HorrorLand, illustrated by the amazing Jill Thompson.
- A Shocker on Shock Street, drawn by Jamie Tolagson.
Scary Summer
Just in time for summer scares, Scary Summer came out in July 2007. It included three chilling graphic novel versions:
- The Horror at Camp JellyJam, illustrated by Kyle Baker.
- Ghost Beach, with art by Ted Naifeh.
- Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes, drawn by Dean Haspiel.
Slappy's Tales of Horror
This book, released in August 2015, was a special collection. It brought back some popular graphic novel adaptations and added a new one! It included:
- A Shocker on Shock Street, by Jamie Tolagson.
- The Werewolf of Fever Swamp, by Gabriel Hernandez.
- Ghost Beach, by Ted Naifeh.
- And the famous Night of the Living Dummy, adapted by Dave Roman.
Goosebumps Comics by IDW Publishing
From 2017 to 2020, another publisher called IDW took over making Goosebumps comics. They created four brand-new comic series: Monsters at Midnight, Download and Die!, Horrors of the Witch House, and Secrets of the Swamp. Unlike the Scholastic books, these were original stories, not adaptations of old ones. Each series had 3 to 5 issues and featured both new and classic Goosebumps characters. Later, all the issues from each series were collected into one bigger book called a "trade paperback."
Monsters at Midnight
This was a 3-issue series that told a brand-new Goosebumps story. It was written by Jeremy Lambert, with a special introduction by R. L. Stine himself! Chris Fenoglio did the awesome illustrations. The individual comic issues came out between October 2017 and February 2018. You could get the collected trade paperback in April 2018.
Download and Die!
Another 3-issue series, Download and Die! featured an original story by Jen Vaughn. R. L. Stine also wrote a special introduction for this one. Michelle Wong was the artist who brought this story to life. The individual issues were released from March 2018 to May 2018, and the trade paperback came out in September 2018.
Horrors of the Witch House
This 3-issue series presented a new scary story written by Denton J. Tipton and Matthew Dow Smith. Chris Fenoglio returned to do the illustrations. The individual comics were released from March 2019 to May 2019, and the collected trade paperback was available in November 2019.
Secrets of the Swamp
The longest of the IDW series, Secrets of the Swamp had 5 issues. It featured an original story by Marieke Nijkamp, with illustrations by Yasmin Flores Montanez and colors by Rebecca Nalty. The individual issues were released from September 2020 to early 2021, and the collected trade paperback was released soon after.
