Gotha is a small community in Orange County, Florida, United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined for gathering population data. Gotha is located between the towns of Ocoee and Windermere.
In 2010, about 1,915 people lived in Gotha. This number grew to 2,217 by 2020. Gotha is part of the larger Orlando area. A fun fact about Gotha is that it's the final resting place of the famous painter, Bob Ross, known for his TV show "The Joy of Painting."

History of Gotha
The town of Gotha has a cool history that dates back to the 1880s. A post office opened there in 1883, helping the community grow.
How Gotha Began
Gotha was officially started in 1885 by a German immigrant named H. A. Hempel. He bought a large piece of land, about 1,000 acres, and planned out the town. He named it Gotha after his hometown in Germany. Hempel Avenue, a main street in Gotha, is named after him.
To attract new residents, Hempel sent out flyers to cities in the northern U.S. and even to Europe. These flyers talked about Florida's warm weather and mild winters. Because of this, many German American families moved to Gotha.
Nehrling Gardens
Gotha is also home to Nehrling Gardens. This beautiful place was created by a plant expert named Henry Nehrling. He developed many different types of plants there.
