Gouverneur is a small village located in St. Lawrence County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 3,526 people lived there.
The village gets its name from Gouverneur Morris. He was a very important person in early American history. Morris helped write the Constitution of the United States. He also owned a lot of land in the area and sometimes lived there.
Gouverneur is often called the "Marble Village." This is because many buildings are made from marble. Marble mining was a very important business for the village a long time ago.

History of Gouverneur
Gouverneur Morris and his family were among the first big landowners in northern New York. Morris even built a summer home in the area.
One of the first major industries in Gouverneur was mining. People mined local marble from the ground. Later, mining for talc and zinc also became very important.
The Village of Gouverneur officially became a village in 1850.
A special building called the First Presbyterian Church Complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. This means it is an important historical site.
