Govan is a small, quiet place in Lincoln County, Washington. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government.
Today, Govan is mostly a ghost town. You can still see an old schoolhouse, a post office building, and a grain elevator. A few houses are still standing, some empty and some with people living in them.

Govan's Past
Govan has a long and interesting history. It was once a busier place, but now it's very quiet.
The Old Schoolhouse
The schoolhouse in Govan was built way back in 1905. Imagine going to school in a building that old! It served the community for many years. However, the school closed its doors in the 1940s. In 2019, the tall steeple on top of the building fell over.
Why Govan Became a Ghost Town
Two big fires swept through Govan over the years. The most recent one happened in 1974. These fires caused a lot of damage. They were a major reason why people started to leave the town. By 2019, only three people lived in the Govan area.
Mysterious Events
Before Govan became mostly abandoned, some puzzling events happened there. In December 1902, a wealthy couple, Judge J.A. Lewis and his wife, were found dead in their home. People thought it might have been a robbery. This event was considered very shocking at the time.
Years later, in 1941, a woman was found dead on her farm in Govan. Around the same time, her son disappeared. His body was found in nearby fields eight years later. These unexplained events add to the mysterious feel of Govan as a ghost town.
