What Did the Junta Do?

The National Congress gave the Junta the power to handle the daily running of the government. However, soon after it was formed, Juan Martínez de Rozas tried to challenge its authority. He wanted to take back his leadership of the movement for independence.

The Junta only lasted a little over three weeks. On September 4, 1811, a change in power happened without any fighting. The Junta was forced to resign. A new group, called the Superior Junta, took its place.
