Grain Valley is a city in Jackson County, Missouri, in the United States. It is part of the larger Kansas City Metropolitan Area, acting as a suburb of Kansas City. In 2020, about 15,627 people lived there. The city is located about 23 miles (37 km) east of downtown Kansas City.

History of Grain Valley
Grain Valley was started in the late 1870s. The city got its name because the area was known for growing a lot of grain. A post office opened in Grain Valley in 1879.
The city was mainly founded by people and business owners from a nearby community called Pink Hill, Missouri. They moved to this new spot after the Chicago and Alton Railroad built a railway through the area in 1878. The railroad bypassed Pink Hill, so people moved to Grain Valley to be closer to the new train lines and the business opportunities they brought.

The Grain Valley R-V School District serves students in Grain Valley. It also includes parts of nearby towns like Blue Springs and Oak Grove. In 2015, over 4,000 students were enrolled in the district. This was a big increase from 1,659 students in 2000.
The school district has four elementary schools and two middle schools. It also has Grain Valley High School for older students. Grain Valley also has a public library. It is a branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library system.
