Grand Korean Waterway facts for kids
The Grand Korean Waterway was a big plan to build canals in South Korea. It was also called the Pan Korea Grand Waterway. The main idea was to connect major rivers and cities using waterways. This project included three main canals.
- The Seoul-Busan Canal (also called GyeongBu Canal) was planned to link Seoul and Busan. These are two of South Korea's biggest cities. It would connect the Han River and the Nakdong River.
- The Honam Canal would run through several provinces. It aimed to connect the Geum River and the YeongSan River.
- The North Korea Canal was a future idea. It would connect cities like SinUiJu, Pyongyang, GaeSeong, and Wonsan.
This big canal project was proposed by Lee Myung-bak. He was South Korea's president from 2008 to 2013. Many people in Korea had different opinions about this plan. President Lee said he would not build it if too many people disagreed.

The most important part of the Grand Korean Waterway plan was the Seoul-Busan Canal. It was also known as the GyeongBu Canal. This canal would connect the cities of Seoul and Busan.

The GyeongBu Canal would start in Seoul, which is the capital city of South Korea. It would follow the Han River for some distance. Then, it would go through a long tunnel. This tunnel would be about 40 kilometers (25 miles) long. Its purpose was to connect the Han River with the Nakdong River.
