Grandma Tracy is a kind and wise character from the TV show Thunderbirds. She is the grandmother of the five Tracy brothers who work for International Rescue. She helps keep the family together and offers good advice. Christine Finn was the voice of Grandma Tracy in the original series.

Grandma Tracy's Story

Not much is known about Grandma Tracy's early life. Her real name is rarely used; even her son, Jeff Tracy, calls her "Grandma." When she was a young girl, her own grandmother took her on trips around London. She even rode the London Underground, which is London's subway system. This experience later became very useful for International Rescue during a rescue mission.

Grandma Tracy was married to a farmer in Kansas. She became a widow before International Rescue started. After her son Jeff's wife passed away, Grandma helped him raise his five sons. In the early days of International Rescue, she lived alone in Colorado. However, she missed feeling helpful and decided to move to Tracy Island to be with her family.

Moving to Tracy Island

After her youngest grandson, Alan Tracy, won a big race, he went to pick her up. She was moving to Tracy Island to live with the family. But a rival racer caused trouble for Alan. He placed a bomb under a bridge where Alan and Grandma were. If either of them moved, the bomb would explode!

Alan's brothers quickly came to rescue them. This was Grandma's first time seeing International Rescue in action. After this exciting event, she moved into the Tracy family home on the island. This story is shown in the episode "Move And You're Dead."

Her Important Role

As the oldest woman in the Tracy family, Grandma Tracy helps keep everyone together. She gives wise advice to her grandsons and others living on the island, like Alan's girlfriend, Tin-Tin. For example, she helped Alan and Tin-Tin stay together when an old friend of Tin-Tin's visited.

Grandma Tracy, along with Kyrano and Tin-Tin, helps with the daily chores around the house. Sometimes, the high-tech gadgets on Tracy Island can be a bit confusing for her. Once, she accidentally mixed tracking devices into her apple pie! But she also learned to use a nuclear oven, showing she can adapt.

Helping International Rescue

Even though Grandma Tracy is not an active member of International Rescue, she still helps when needed. She has helped her grandsons put together important equipment for their missions. She even came up with a clever solution for a difficult rescue mission at the Bank of England when everyone else was stuck.

Grandma also attended a TV show where the host thanked International Rescue for saving his life. She has always wanted to visit a grand stately home, especially after meeting the elegant Lady Penelope.

Other Appearances

Grandma Tracy also appears briefly in the movie Thunderbird 6, but she does not have any speaking lines. She is not in the 2004 live-action movie. In that film, a new character named Onaha takes her place. Onaha is shown to be Kyrano's wife and Tin-Tin's mother.

Grandma Tracy returns in the 2015 remake series, Thunderbirds Are Go. In this version, Sandra Dickinson provides her voice. Her personality is a bit different in the remake. She is tougher and has taken over as the head of the family since Jeff disappeared. She is also known for being a terrible cook! In the second season of the remake, her first name is revealed to be Sally.
