Grantville is a small community in Jefferson County, Kansas. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government tracks for population numbers. In 2020, about 182 people lived there. Grantville is located east of Topeka. You can find it on the south side of the US-24 highway.

History of Grantville

Grantville received its name in 1866. It was named after Ulysses S. Grant. He was a very important military leader during the American Civil War. Later, he became the 18th President of the United States. The first post office in Grantville opened in October 1866.

Geography and Location

Grantville is located in the southwestern part of Jefferson County. It is found near U.S. Route 24. The community sits in the valley of the Kansas River. Its elevation is about 876 feet (267 meters) above sea level.

U.S. Route 24 runs along the northern edge of Grantville. This highway leads east about 9 miles (14 km) to Perry. It also goes west about 5 miles (8 km) to the northern part of Topeka. Downtown Topeka is about 9 miles (14 km) west and south of Grantville.
