The Gravina Museum of Fine Arts, also known as Museo de Bellas Artes Gravina or MUBAG, is a fantastic art museum in the city of Alicante, Spain. It's located inside a beautiful old building called the Palacio del Conde de Lumiares. This palace was built a long time ago, between 1748 and 1808, and it's now a protected historical monument.

What You'll Find Inside MUBAG

MUBAG is a special place dedicated to showing off amazing paintings and sculptures. All the art you see here comes from the Alicante region. The museum focuses on art created from the 1500s up to the early 1900s.

A Collection of Treasures

The museum has almost 500 artworks! These pieces come from the provincial council's collection. You can see a cool sculpture by a famous artist named Francisco Salzillo. There's also a portrait of King Ferdinand VII painted by Vicente López Portaña, who was a well-known artist from Valencia.

Famous Artists from Alicante

MUBAG also features many works by important painters from the 1800s who lived in the Alicante area. These artists include Antonio Gisbert, Joaquín Agrasot, Lorenzo Casanova, and Fernando Cabrera Cantó.

Their art shows different styles that were popular back then:

  • Historicism: Paintings that tell stories from history.
  • Customs: Art that shows everyday life and traditions.
  • Portraits: Pictures of people.
  • Landscapes: Beautiful scenes of nature.

The Gravina Museum of Fine Arts opened its doors in 2001. It's a great place to explore art and learn about the history of painting and sculpture in the Alicante region.
