The greenfinch (Chloris chloris), also known as the European greenfinch, is a small passerine bird. It belongs to the finch family called Fringillidae.
This bird is very common across Europe, northern Africa, and southwest Asia. Most greenfinches stay in the same area all year, but some from the north fly south for winter. Greenfinches have also been brought to Australia and New Zealand.

Where Greenfinches Live
Greenfinches like to live in places with lots of plants. They prefer the edges of woodlands, hedges on farms, and gardens that have thick bushes. These places are perfect for them to build their nests and raise their young.
Life Cycle and Reproduction
Greenfinches build their nests in trees or bushes. A female greenfinch will lay between 3 and 8 eggs at a time. They take good care of their eggs until the baby birds hatch.
Food and Flocking
Greenfinches mainly eat seeds. They also enjoy eating berries. Outside of the breeding season, these birds often gather in large groups. Sometimes, they even mix with other types of finches and buntings to form big flocks.
