History of Greenhills
Greenhills was one of three "Greenbelt Communities" built in the 1930s. The government created these towns to help people during the Great Depression. The idea was to surround the town with a "belt" of forests and natural areas. The other two Greenbelt towns are Greenbelt, Maryland and Greendale, Wisconsin.
When Greenhills was first started, it had rules that prevented certain groups of people from buying homes there. This was a common problem in many places during that time. Today, many families in Greenhills are descendants of the first people who moved into the original homes.
The oldest part of the village, called the Greenhills Historic District, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a National Historic Landmark. This means it's a very important historical place. The village hall, which is the town's main office, is also a historic building.
