History of Greenleaf
Greenleaf was started in 1876. It officially became a city in 1880. The city was named after A. W. Greenleaf. He was the treasurer for a railroad company called the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad. Before Greenleaf, there was a post office in a place called Round Grove. This post office moved to Greenleaf when the railroad was built in the new town.
In 1966, the Greenleaf school building was badly damaged by a fire.
A strong tornado hit Greenleaf on September 25, 1973. This tornado destroyed 42 homes and 26 businesses. Sadly, two children also lost their lives during the storm.

The public schools in Greenleaf are part of the Washington County USD 108 school district. This district was created in 2006. It combined two older school districts. The high school in this district is called Washington County High School. Its sports teams are known as the Tigers.
The old Greenleaf High School used to have a mascot called the Greenleaf Trojans.
