Greenway is a small city in Clay County, Arkansas, United States. It is located in the eastern part of the county. In 2010, the city had a population of 209 people. By 2020, the population was counted as 174.

A Look Back: Greenway's History

In 1876, a doctor named W.V. Turner started a post office in this area. It was first known as "Clayville." Sometimes, people also called it "Hamburg."

The name changed to "Greenway" later on. This happened when a railroad line was built through the community. A train station, called a depot, was also constructed. The railroad eventually became part of the St. Louis Southwestern Railway system. No one is quite sure how the name "Greenway" came to be.

Where is Greenway? Geography

Greenway is located at the eastern base of Crowley's Ridge. This is a unique landform in Arkansas. The city is just a few miles west of the border with Missouri.

U.S. Route 49 is a main road that goes through Greenway. This highway connects Greenway to Piggott to the northeast. It also links Greenway to Rector to the southwest.

The United States Census Bureau says that Greenway covers a total area of about 0.67 square kilometers (0.26 square miles). All of this area is land, with no water.
