East Greenwood
East Greenwood was once a rural post office in this township. It operated for many years, from 1874 until 1905.
Fargo
Fargo is a small, unincorporated community in the southeastern part of the township. An unincorporated community is a recognized place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or village. Fargo is located where Fargo Road crosses Plum Creek.
Fargo was an important stop on the Port Huron and Northwestern Railway in the past. It was named after the A. Farr & Sons family, who owned a sawmill and grist mill in the area. A post office was open in Fargo from March 1881 until March 1959. Today, "Fargo" is still an acceptable name for the Avoca ZIP code 48006.
Greenwood Centre
Greenwood Centre was a historical settlement located near the middle of the township. The township itself was officially organized in 1855. A post office also operated in Greenwood Centre from October 1874 until November 1885. Similar to Fargo, "Greenwood" is an acceptable name for the Avoca ZIP code 48006.
