Greg Mauldin's Hockey Journey
Early Days and College Hockey
Greg Mauldin started his hockey journey with the Boston Junior Bruins. This was in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) in 1999. He quickly showed how talented and fast he was on the ice. Greg was chosen for the First All-Star Team two years in a row. He also won the EJHL MVP Award in 2000.
In 2001, he went to UMass Amherst for college. He scored 94 points in 98 games there. He also helped his team, the Minutemen, reach the 2003 Hockey East Championship game. After three successful seasons at UMass, he joined the Columbus Blue Jackets. This team had picked him in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Playing in the NHL and AHL
Mauldin made his first appearance in the NHL soon after the Hockey East Championship. He played in six games for the Blue Jackets. For the 2004–05 season, he played for the Syracuse Crunch. This team was linked to the Blue Jackets in the AHL. He scored 27 points that season.
During the 2005–06 season, he was traded to the Minnesota Wild. He then played for the Houston Aeros, the Wild's AHL team. In the 2006–07 season, Mauldin played briefly for the Bloomington Prairie Thunder in the UHL. After that, he moved to Sweden to play.
Before the 2007–08 season, Mauldin joined the St. Louis Blues development camp. He then signed with the Binghamton Senators in the AHL. Later, the Ottawa Senators signed him to a one-year contract for the 2008–09 season. He was sent back to Binghamton for that year.
Time with the Islanders and Avalanche
On July 3, 2009, Mauldin signed a one-year contract with the New York Islanders. In the 2009–10 season, he was the top scorer for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. This team was the Islanders' AHL partner. He scored 54 points in 77 games. He played a short game for the Islanders on April 8, 2010.
After that season, Mauldin became a free agent. He signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche on July 2, 2010. He started the 2010–11 season with the Lake Erie Monsters, the Avalanche's AHL team. He was later called up to the Avalanche.
In his first game with the Avalanche on November 12, 2010, he scored his first NHL goal. It was a special goal because it was scored while his team was short a player. He was named the second best player of the game. Mauldin continued to play well for the Avalanche. He scored two goals and two assists in one game against the Minnesota Wild. He played 29 games for the Avalanche, scoring 10 points. He then returned to Lake Erie to help them reach the playoffs.
In the 2011–12 season, Mauldin played for Lake Erie again. He had a strong start but was limited by an injury. He finished the season with 34 points in 59 games.
