Gregory Brian Williams, born in 1969, is an American lawyer from Delaware. He is a judge for the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. This court handles important legal cases in the state of Delaware.
Education and Early Life
Judge Williams went to college at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. He earned two degrees there in 1990. Later, in 1995, he earned his law degree (called a Juris Doctor) from Villanova University School of Law.
Career Before Becoming a Judge
Before becoming a lawyer, Mr. Williams served in the United States Army Reserve from 1986 to 1992. After law school, he joined a law firm called Fox Rothschild LLP in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1995. He became a partner at the firm in 2003. He focused on commercial law, which deals with business agreements, and patent law, which protects new inventions.
From 2020 to 2022, he worked as a special master for the District of Delaware. In this role, he helped manage complicated civil cases.
Becoming a Federal Judge
On April 13, 2022, President Joe Biden announced that he wanted to nominate Gregory Williams to be a United States district judge. His nomination was officially sent to the Senate on April 25, 2022. Judge Williams was nominated to fill the position left by Judge Leonard P. Stark. Judge Stark had moved to a different court, the Federal Circuit Court.
The United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing about his nomination on May 11, 2022. On June 9, 2022, the committee voted to approve his nomination. The full United States Senate then voted on his nomination. On July 20, 2022, the Senate confirmed him as a judge. He officially started his work as a judge on September 1, 2022.
