Großenhain started as a village built by the Sorbs. The Sorbs are a Slavic group of people who live in parts of Germany. The town was first written about in the year 1205. This makes Großenhain a very old place!
Where is Großenhain?
Großenhain is located on the Röder river. It is about 30 kilometers (18 miles) northwest of the big city of Dresden. The town is also 17 kilometers (10 miles) east of Riesa.
Großenhain is also on an old trade route called Via Regia. This route goes all the way from Görlitz to Santiago de Compostela.
