Welcome to Grover Cleveland Park!

Grover Cleveland Park is a large and inviting park located in Essex County, New Jersey. It covers about 41.5 acres, which is like 30 football fields! This makes it the seventh-largest park in the county's park system. You can find it in the western part of Essex County, right on the border between the towns of Caldwell and Essex Fells.

What's Special About the Park?

This park was designed to be a very pretty and organized space. It has neat lawns and many large, well-placed trees. A stream called Pine Brook Creek flows through the park. This creek feeds a small pond at one end of the park. Long ago, there was even a sawmill near a small footbridge at the far end of the pond! Several footbridges help you cross the stream and explore both sides of the park.

A Park with History

Grover Cleveland Park was created between 1913 and 1916. It was named after Grover Cleveland, who was a very important person in American history.

Who Was Grover Cleveland?

Grover Cleveland was born in Caldwell, New Jersey, which is why the park is named after him. He was the 22nd and 24th President of the United States. This means he served two terms, but not one right after the other! He is the only U.S. president to serve two non-consecutive terms.

Designing the Park

When the park was being planned, experts called the Olmsted Brothers were asked to help. They were famous landscape architects who designed many parks, including parts of Central Park in New York City. They created a plan for how people could use most of the park for fun activities.

By the summer of 1914, work began on building places for recreation. These included tennis courts, baseball fields, and a playground. There was also a sand court, a wading pool for kids, and a shelter house. All these improvements were finished and ready for the public to enjoy by 1916.

Fun Things to Do at the Park

Today, Grover Cleveland Park offers many ways to have fun outdoors. Here are some of the things you can do:
