The Guadalix is a river in Spain, located in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula. It is a "tributary" of the Jarama river, which means it's a smaller river that flows into the Jarama.
About the Guadalix River
The Guadalix river begins high up in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains. Its source is in a valley surrounded by several peaks. These include La Najarra Peak, the Puerto de la Morcuera, the Alto de la Genciana, and the Cordal de la Vaqueriza.
Its Journey
The river is about 42 kilometers (26 miles) long. It flows mostly towards the southeast through the Community of Madrid. The Guadalix eventually joins the Jarama river near a place called Santo Domingo housing development in Algete. This area is also close to the famous Jarama Circuit, which is a race track.
Water Supply
The waters of the Guadalix river are collected in a large storage area called the El Vellón Reservoir
. This reservoir helps to store water for different uses. The Name "Guadalix"
The name Guadalix has an interesting history. The first part, "Guadal-", comes from the Arabic word wadi, which means "river". The second part, "-alix", might be an old Arabic name or perhaps even older, from before Arabic times.
