A Look Back: Guanajibo's History
Puerto Rico, including Guanajibo, became a part of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. After this, Puerto Rico became an "unincorporated territory" of the U.S. This means it's a part of the U.S. but doesn't have all the same rights as a state.
How Many People Lived Here?
The United States government started counting the number of people in Puerto Rico in 1899. This count is called a "census." The first census showed that 1,074 people lived in Guanajibo. Over the years, the number of people living in Guanajibo has grown quite a bit.
