Guaonico's Past
Puerto Rico became a part of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened because of an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898 in 1898. After this, Puerto Rico became an "unincorporated territory" of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but is not a state.
In 1899, the United States government counted all the people living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 771 people lived in Guaonico barrio at that time.
