A Look Back at Guildford
Guildford officially became a recognized place, or locality, in 1974. It was once an important railway station and junction. This station was part of the Emu Bay Railway in West Coast, Tasmania.
The station was a key connection point. It linked to the Waratah Branch railway, which went towards Mount Bischoff. From there, you could connect to the Magnet Tramway. This tramway was a narrow-gauge railway that operated from 1901 to the 1910s. Today, the old station and its buildings are no longer there.
Where is Guildford?
The Arthur River forms part of Guildford's western border. The Hellyer River also starts in the southern part of Guildford. It then flows through the area towards the north.
Getting Around Guildford
Several main roads pass through Guildford. The Murchison Highway (known as Route A10) goes through the area from the north-west to the south. Route B18, called the Ridgley Highway, begins where it meets A10. It then travels north-east before leaving Guildford.
Another road, Route B23 (Waratah Road), also starts at an intersection with A10. This road goes south-west until it exits the locality. Finally, Route C132, or Belvoir Road, passes through the south-east corner of Guildford.
