Taking Charge of Ecuador
Guillermo Rodríguez Lara was the commander of the army. In 1972, he led a military takeover, which is when the military takes control of the government. A navy commander named Jorge Queirolo G. helped with this. They sent the president at the time, José María Velasco Ibarra, away to Buenos Aires, Argentina. After this, Guillermo Rodríguez Lara became the new leader of Ecuador.
