Guitiriz (Galician pronunciation: [ɡitiˈɾiθ]) is a town in northwestern Spain. It is located in the province of Lugo, within the region of Galicia. Guitiriz is known for its special spa, which uses natural mineral water. Before 1950, the town was called Trasparga.

The name Guitiriz comes from a Germanic background. It is linked to a king named Witteric. Witteric was a king of the Suebi people. He ruled parts of Spain in the 6th century. Local stories say that King Witteric founded Guitiriz around that time. The name "Guitiriz" means "the place owned by Witiricus."

People have lived in the Guitiriz area for a very long time. The first settlers were Celtic people. Later, the Romans knew about the healing powers of the local hot springs. But it was after the Romans left, when the Suebi people arrived, that the spa town became truly famous. This happened in the 6th century.
Medieval Times and Noble Families
In the 14th century, the entire Terra Chá Region became part of the lands owned by Fernán Pérez de Andrade. His family later became the First Counts of Villalba. This happened during the time of the Catholic Monarchs in Spain.
Historic Buildings and Landmarks
There are still old buildings and structures to see in the area. One example is the Castle of Parga. It is a well-preserved medieval fortification. You can also see a beautiful Gothic bridge. These sites show the rich history of Guitiriz.
