Anand Mohan Zutshi Gulzar Dehlavi (born July 7, 1926 – died June 12, 2020) was a famous Indian Urdu poet, scholar, and journalist. He was born in a place called Gali Kashmeerian in Old Delhi.
Gulzar Dehlavi was honored by the Vice President of India on his 91st birthday. This was to celebrate his amazing contributions to Urdu poetry. He spent his whole life working for the Urdu language. Many important people recognized his efforts. He also started the first Urdu science magazine, Science Ki Dunya, in 1975. Even Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, read his poem 'Zarurat Hai Un Naujawano Ki' on India's Independence Day in 1947. His book, 'Kulliyat-E-Gulzar', was launched by former Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari.
About Gulzar Dehlavi's Life
Gulzar Dehlavi's parents were Pandit Tribhuvan Nath and Brij Rani Zutshi. His father, also known as Zar Dehlvi, was a professor. He taught Urdu and Persian languages at Delhi University for about 40 years. People even called him ‘molvi sahib’ because he was such a dedicated teacher.
Gulzar Dehlavi went to Ramjas School and BVJ Sanskrit School. He later earned a Master of Arts degree from Hindu College, Delhi. He is married to Kavita Zutshi.
His Passing
Gulzar Dehlavi passed away at his home in Noida on June 12, 2020. He died from health problems that came after having COVID-19.
