Gunthorpe is a lively residential area located in the city of Peterborough, England. It is part of the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire. Since 2015, Gunthorpe has its own special area, called a ward, within the Peterborough City Council. This ward also includes parts of South Werrington.

Growing Gunthorpe: New Homes and Areas
Gunthorpe has been growing steadily since the 1950s. Many new homes and buildings have been added over the years.
Roman Fields Development
A new area called Roman Fields is currently being built. This development is located across the A15 road. It will include new homes, fun parks, and a brand new school. Work on Roman Fields has been happening since 2006.
Gunthorpe Ridings: A Past Development
Another large group of homes is called Gunthorpe Ridings. This area was built between 1982 and 1988. It was developed by a company called Wilcon Homes. Their main office used to be nearby on Meal's Gate.
Shops and Services in Gunthorpe
Along the main road that goes through Gunthorpe, you will find several useful places. There are two shop units where you can buy things. There is also a pub, which is a place to eat and drink. A primary school is also located on this road. The school first opened its doors in 1975. The shops and pub opened around the same time as the Wilcon Homes development.

Primary Schools
Most younger students go to either Gunthorpe Primary School or Norwood Primary School. These schools teach children from a young age up to about 11 years old.
Secondary Schools
Older students, usually aged 11 to 16, attend secondary schools. Many go to Queen Katherine Academy. This school is built on the site of the old Walton Comprehensive School. Other students might attend Ken Stimpsons Community School, which is in nearby Werrington. A new school, Manor Drive Academy, is set to open in 2022. It will be part of the Roman Fields development.
History of Gunthorpe as a Parish
A "parish" is a small local area, often with its own church.
Gunthorpe became its own parish in 1866. However, on April 1, 1929, it was officially joined with Peterborough. This meant it was no longer a separate parish. In 1921, the Gunthorpe parish had a population of 65 people.
