Augustus Richard Kenworthy (born October 1, 1991), known as Gus Kenworthy, is a British-American former freestyle skier, actor, and YouTuber. He is famous for competing in events like slopestyle, halfpipe, and big air.

Kenworthy won a silver medal in men's slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He has also acted in TV shows, including the ninth season of American Horror Story: 1984. Since 2019, he has competed for Great Britain.

Early Life

Gus Kenworthy was born in Chelmsford, Essex, England. His mother, Heather "Pip" Tyler, is English, and his father, Peter Kenworthy, is American. He has two older brothers, Hugh and Nick.

When Gus was two years old, his family moved to Telluride, a town in the United States known for its ski resort. He graduated from Telluride High School in 2010. He decided to take an extra year before graduating so he could focus on his skiing.

Skiing Career

Kenworthy became a top athlete in freestyle skiing. He won the AFP World Championships overall titles three years in a row, in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Olympic Games

In 2014, Kenworthy competed for the United States at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He won a silver medal in the slopestyle event. This was a huge achievement and made him famous around the world.

He competed again in the 2018 Winter Olympics and the 2022 Winter Olympics. The 2022 games were his last competition before retiring from the sport.

X Games and World Cups

Kenworthy has also had a lot of success at the X Games, a major competition for action sports. He won his first X Games medal, a bronze, in 2013. Over his career, he won several more medals in different events.

He also competed in the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup. He won first place in the Men's Halfpipe in 2015 and 2016.

Competing for Great Britain

In December 2019, Kenworthy announced that he would start competing for Great Britain, the country where he was born. In February 2020, he won his first gold medal representing Great Britain in a World Cup event.

Besides being a professional athlete, Gus Kenworthy has also appeared on television and is known for his charity work.

Acting and TV Appearances

In 2019, Kenworthy joined the cast of the TV show American Horror Story for its ninth season, called 1984. He played the character Chet Clancy.

He has also appeared on other shows, including The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros on MTV and as a guest on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars.

Advocacy and Charity Work

In October 2015, Kenworthy shared in an interview with ESPN that he is gay. He was one of the first major action-sports athletes to do so. This was seen as an important moment for LGBT athletes in sports. He received an award from the Human Rights Campaign in 2017 for helping to bring more visibility to the LGBT community.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics, a moment when his then-boyfriend, Matthew Wilkas, kissed him before a competition was shown on TV. Many people saw this as a positive step for showing support for LGBT athletes.

Kenworthy is also involved in charity. In 2019, he participated in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. He joined the event to raise money and awareness for fighting HIV/AIDS, raising nearly $250,000.
