Gustavo Raúl Gómez Portillo (born on May 6, 1993) is a professional footballer from Paraguay. He plays as a centre-back and is the captain for both the Brazilian club Palmeiras and the Paraguay national team.

Club Career Highlights

Starting at Libertad

Gustavo Gómez began his football journey at Libertad in Paraguay. He was seen as a very promising young defender.

Time at Lanús

In 2014, Gómez moved to Argentina to play for Lanús. During his time there, his team had a very strong defense. In 2016, Lanús won the Argentine Primera División title. They only let in 10 goals in 17 games, which shows how good their defense was with Gustavo.

Playing for AC Milan

On August 5, 2016, Gustavo Gómez joined the famous Italian club AC Milan. He signed a five-year contract. He was the first player from Paraguay ever to play for Milan. He chose the number 15 jersey to honor his former teammate, Diego Barisone, who had passed away. His first game for Milan was in Serie A against Napoli on August 27, 2016.

Success with Palmeiras

In August 2018, Gómez joined Palmeiras in Brazil on a loan deal. He quickly became a favorite among the fans. Many people consider him one of the best centre-backs in Palmeiras' history. He helped the team win many important titles, including:

He played in the Copa América Centenario in 2016, starting in all three games for his team.
