Guyle Abner Fielder (born November 21, 1930) is an American-born Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played as a center. Guyle is famous for his amazing career in the minor Western Hockey League (WHL). He played there for a very long time, from 1952 to 1973.

Even though he only played a few games in the National Hockey League (NHL), Guyle Fielder is one of the top scorers in professional ice hockey history! Only legends like Wayne Gretzky, Jaromír Jágr, and Gordie Howe have scored more points than him. He also holds records for the most games, assists, and points ever scored in minor league hockey.

Guyle Fielder's Hockey Journey

Guyle Fielder moved to Nipawin, Saskatchewan in Canada when he was young. He started playing junior hockey in Prince Albert and Lethbridge. After that, he became a professional player.

He played a total of 15 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for three different teams: the Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, and Boston Bruins.

However, Guyle spent most of his career, 22 seasons, in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He played mainly for the Seattle Totems. He also played for the New Westminster Royals, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles, and the Portland Buckaroos. He even played one season in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the St. Louis Flyers. He also had short times with the Quebec Aces and the Edmonton Flyers.

Awards and Amazing Records

Guyle Fielder won many awards during his career. In 1952, he was named Rookie of the Year with the New Westminster Royals. This award goes to the best new player. He also won Rookie of the Year in the AHL in 1953.

He was named the WHL's Most Valuable Player (MVP) six times! This included four years in a row from 1957 to 1960. He was the league's top scorer nine times. He also won the award for the most gentlemanly player three times.

Guyle Fielder was known for his incredible scoring. He had four seasons where he scored more than 100 points. He also had 10 seasons where he made 70 or more assists. In 1957, his 122 points broke the professional record at the time!

When he retired, Guyle Fielder had scored 438 goals and made 1,491 assists, for a total of 1,929 points. This point total was a professional record back then. It is still the all-time record for minor league hockey! His assist total is also the highest ever in the minor leagues. He played in 1,487 games, which is another all-time minor league record.

To honor his legacy, the Seattle Kraken hockey team created the Guyle Fielder Award. This award recognizes a player who shows "perseverance, hustle, and dedication." These are all qualities Guyle Fielder was known for. Yanni Gourde was the first player to win this award in 2022.
