The Hôpital Européen Georges-Pompidou, often called HEGP, is a large hospital in Paris, France. Its name means "Georges Pompidou European Hospital". It is part of a big group of public hospitals in Paris called Assistance publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP).

A Modern Hospital in Paris

The HEGP opened its doors in 2001. It was created by combining three older hospitals from the 15th district of Paris. These were Boucicaut Hospital, Broussais Hospital, and Laënnec Hospital. The architect who designed this modern hospital was Aymeric Zublena.

Where is the Hospital Located?

The HEGP is in the southwestern part of the 15th arrondissement. It is close to a city entrance called the Porte de Sèvres. There is also a famous art museum, the Centre Georges Pompidou, in a different part of Paris. This museum is not connected to the hospital.

How to Get There

It is easy to reach the HEGP using public transport. You can take the Métro Line 8 to the Balard station. The RER C train and Tramway T3 both stop at Pont du Garigliano. Several bus lines, including 42, 88, and 169, also go to the hospital.

Leading the Way in Heart Care

The HEGP is well-known as one of the best hospitals in Europe and the world for heart-related treatments. Doctors and scientists at this hospital do important work in cardiac care.

The First Artificial Heart

In 2013, a French professor named Alain Carpentier worked with a team at the HEGP. They developed the first fully artificial heart. This amazing device was made using special materials and electronic sensors. On December 18, 2013, a team at the hospital successfully implanted this artificial heart into a patient. This was a huge step forward in medical science.
