Huey Joel Deckard (born March 7, 1942, died September 6, 2016) was an American businessman and politician. He served as a U.S. Representative for Indiana for two terms, from 1979 to 1983.
Early Life and Career
Huey Joel Deckard was born in Vandalia, Illinois. He went to public schools in Mount Vernon, Indiana. He studied at the University of Evansville from 1962 to 1967. From 1966 to 1972, he served in the Indiana National Guard.
Before becoming a politician, Deckard worked in broadcasting. He was involved with TV and radio stations in Illinois and Indiana from 1959 to 1972. Later, he became an executive for cable television. He also helped design and build homes and offices that saved energy.
From 1966 to 1974, he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of Indiana.
Serving in Congress

Deckard was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Republican. He served two terms in Congress, from January 3, 1979, to January 3, 1983.
He tried to get reelected in 1982 but lost to Frank McCloskey. This district was known for often electing new representatives.
Later Life and Passing
After his time in Congress, Deckard moved to Florida. There, he worked as a computer specialist for Citibank in Tallahassee.
In 2000, he ran for U.S. Senator as a candidate for the Reform Party. He later retired and lived in Little Elm, Texas.
Huey Joel Deckard passed away on September 6, 2016, in McKinney, Texas. He was 74 years old.
