HMS Lee was a special kind of warship called a Cyrus-class post ship. It had 20 guns and was part of the Royal Navy, which is the United Kingdom's navy. The ship was built in 1814 by Josiah and Thomas Brindley. These builders were nephews of the famous Lord Nelson. They built the Lee at one of their shipyards in Frindsbury, Kent.

Life of HMS Lee

Starting Service

The HMS Lee was officially put into service in January 1815. This is called being commissioned. Its first captain was James Bremer.

After the Wars

After the Napoleonic Wars ended, Captain John Pasco took command of the HMS Lee in August 1815. The Napoleonic Wars were a series of big conflicts in Europe. The Lee was then used in the English Channel. Its job was to stop smuggling, which is bringing goods into a country illegally.

Captain Pasco stayed in charge until September 1818. At that time, the Lee was paid off. This means it was taken out of active service.

End of Service

The Lee was kept in a special reserve fleet for four more years. This was known as being "in ordinary." Finally, in May 1822, the ship was sold. It was then taken apart, which is called "breaking up."
