Title | al-Asadi (ٱلْأَسَدِيّ) |
Ḥabīb ibn Muẓāhir al-Asadī was a brave companion of important figures in Islamic history. He belonged to the Banu Asad clan. Habib was a friend and supporter of Ali, Hasan ibn Ali, and Husayn ibn Ali. These were all grandsons or sons of the Prophet Muhammad.
Habib lived in a city called Kufa. When Husayn ibn Ali was invited to Kufa, Habib was one of the people who sent letters asking him to come. However, the people of Kufa later changed their minds and stopped supporting Husayn. When Habib realized this, he bravely left Kufa. He joined Husayn's small army and fought alongside him. Habib was 75 years old when he was killed while fighting in the Battle of Karbala. He is remembered as a martyr for his loyalty.
The Battle of Karbala
Habib ibn Muzahir played a very important role in the Battle of Karbala. This battle was a major event in Islamic history. It took place between Husayn ibn Ali's small group and a much larger army led by Umar ibn Sa'd. This larger army was sent by Yazid I.
Even though he was old, Habib was put in charge of the left side of Husayn's army. He fought with great courage and skill. He bravely faced many enemies during the battle.
During the fight, Habib was attacked by an enemy named Budayl b. Maryam 'Aqfani. He was hit on the head with a sword. Then, another enemy hit him with a spear, which made him fall from his horse. Sadly, Budayl b. Maryam then killed him. Habib's bravery and loyalty are still remembered today.
