Hadi Saei (born June 10, 1976) is a famous Iranian athlete. He is best known for his amazing achievements in Taekwondo, a Korean martial art. Hadi Saei is considered one of the most successful Iranian athletes in Olympic history. He has won many important titles in Taekwondo.
He has won nine world-class titles. These include three Olympic medals, two World Championship titles, and four World Cup titles. He also won a World Olympic Qualification Tournament. Hadi Saei is one of only three Taekwondo athletes with the most Olympic medals.
Besides being a top athlete, Hadi Saei also served as a member of the City Council of Tehran. He was first elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2013.

Hadi Saei's Taekwondo Journey
Hadi Saei started practicing Taekwondo when he was just six years old. He trained hard and became very skilled. Early in his career, he competed in the Lightweight category. This category is for athletes weighing between 67 and 72 kilograms.
In 1999, he became a World Champion. He also won a silver medal at the World Championships in 2003.
Helping Others After the Bam Earthquake
In 2003, a terrible earthquake hit the Iranian town of Bam. Many people lost their homes and everything they had. Hadi Saei showed his kind heart by helping the victims. He decided to auction off his valuable medals to raise money for those affected by the earthquake. This act of kindness showed his strong character.
Retiring from Taekwondo
After a long and successful career, Hadi Saei officially retired from Taekwondo on November 8, 2008. He left the sport as a true legend.

Sydney 2000 Olympics
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Hadi Saei won a bronze medal. This was his first Olympic medal. It was a great start to his Olympic journey.
Athens 2004 Olympics
Four years later, at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, Hadi Saei achieved his dream. He won his first Olympic gold medal in the 68 kg category. This made him an Olympic champion.
Beijing 2008 Olympics
The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, was another amazing event for Hadi Saei. He competed in the 80 kg category. In his very first match, he fractured his right hand. Even with a broken hand, he continued to fight through the pain. He did not tell anyone about his injury until after the competition.
Hadi Saei bravely fought his way to the final. He won the gold medal against Mauro Sarmiento from Italy. Right after his victory, his hand was put in a plaster cast. Winning this gold medal was a huge achievement for him and for Iran. It helped Iran have a better result than in previous Olympics.
